LG Electronics awarded CarbonFree
certification for six products
LG Electronics (LG), the global leader and technology innovator in consumer electronics,
mobile communications and home appliances has been awarded CarbonFree certification
for six of its products, further validating the electronics giant’s strategy in reducing its carbon
footprint.
The CarbonFree certification was issued by the Carbonfund.org Foundation, a leading
organization in the fight against global warming and an authority on evaluating the impact
that individuals and businesses have on the environment. The LG products which received
the CarbonFree certification include the Optimus G smartphone, OLED TV, washing machine,
refrigerator, vacuum cleaner and computer monitor.
In order to ensure that the products deserved to receive the prestigious certification, they
were subjected to a comprehensive lifecycle analysis as part of the certification process to
determine the carbon footprint, starting from its manufacturing point to its final disposal.
“As an environmental responsible company, we have strengthened our commitment to
bringing energy-efficient products to the market,” commented Dr. Skott Ahn, Chief Technology
Officer at LG Electronics. “But I’ll be the first to admit that this is a marathon, not a sprint and we
still have a long way to go. Fortunately, we’re off to a great start,” he further commented.
This is not the first time LG has been bestowed with the CarbonFree certification. In 2011, the
company succeeded in obtaining the CarbonFree status for seven of its products.

All of this year’s CarbonFree certified products made an appearance at the 2013 Consumer
Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
