Nokia Lumia 820
Unlike the heavier and blockish Nokia Lumia 920 the Lumia 820 smartie sports a replaceable back plate, which is available in various colours and a removable battery. Nokia has also added a microsd slot to augment the meagre 8GB internal storage. All three of these conveniences are most welcome. The only grouse is the stubborn back plate, which takes some effort to peel off. Even though the 820 is a step lower than the 920, it still includes some solid features in terms of connectivity and display quality. The 4.3-inch touchscreen is an AMoLEd display using Nokia’s ClearBlack tech.
Unlike the 920, it is not protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 2 so you might want to be a little more careful with this ` 27k phone. Even though the res is pegged down to 480x800, it is aided by a high pixel density of 217ppi. Along with the bright AMoLEd display this made for a very crisp output. Couple that with the Windows Phone 8 UI and the entire feel is very fluid and snappy. The camera does not boast the optical Is or PureView tech. Even then, its 8-MP snapper performs nicely in well-lit scenes but quality takes a dip in low light.
The front snapper is basic VGA – nothing worth writing home about here. In terms of connectivity, it’s got it all – dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC and Qi wireless charging. We liked the inclusion of the dolby audio enhancement and EQ profiles. The Nokia Lumia 820 is a bit pricey but its youthful look, lighter frame and the essential Nokia drive+ Beta along with an improved os makes it an attractive, uncomplicated option.
