HP x2401
Future Inspired
Gone are the days of monitors that take up the space of an entire desk; in today’s age, bulky is out and thin is in, as evidenced by HP’s latest x2401 LED display. Super sleek and ultra
slim, this futuristic monitor looks good at 24-inches and is ready to tackle your gaming, video and
entertainment needs. Sexy, elegant and razor-thin, the x2401 is a stylish monitor with
viewing angles of up to 178° that can be propped up like an easel, thanks to a support arm on the
back. Easy to set up, there is no need for installation instructions; simply take it out of the box, fold
back the support arm and prop up the display. Alternatively, users can
also remove the arm to mount the screen on a wall. Housed in a brushed aluminum cabinet with a screen framed by a glossy black bezel, it impresses with its minimalist build, which looks good in a home office or even the living room. Users will find controls for the display on the
4.25-inch panel below the bottom bezel, while connectivity ports are cleverly hidden on the left side,
facing outwards. This includes HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, as well as the power jack.
But while it is stunning in terms of finish and design, that is about as much as users can look forward to from this display. It is not touch-enabled and there are no USB ports, card readers, speakers or even a webcam built into this monitor; so all you can expect is a good display that does exactly what it’s supposed to do without fuss and fanfare. With support of resolutions up to 1920x1080, it is suitable for enjoying your favorite
HD entertainment such as videos or games. Settings-wise, users can tweak the usual options including brightness, contrast and sharpness, as well as toggle the dynamic contrast ratio or switch between five color temperature choices. While there isn’t a visible Eco mode, the x2401 is already an energy efficient monitor, so a Sleep mode is adequate for conserving energy when you want to.
In terms of performance, the monitor is pretty good. Equipped with a MVA (Multi-domain Vertical
Alignment) panel, the display is able to reproduce colors quite accurately with nicely saturated
reds, greens and blues. When tested with HD films like Avatar, we did not notice any ghosting or motion blur during action scenes, although we did observe graininess in some of the darker scenes. At times, the brightness can mute colors a little, but this does little to detract from the sharpness and clarity. All in all, the HP x2401 is a good monitor. It’s energy efficient and provides solid contrast and color in a chic package. The ultra-thin easel stand design gives it an edge, although we do feel that the display could benefit from added features like a webcam or USB ports. However, if you’re looking for something that will turn heads, then the HP x2401 will do just that.
